Important Internship Deadlines
Timeline
1. Inquire about upcoming internship sessions
Internship availability and timelines vary by year. Inquire well in advance so you have time to prepare your materials and plan your travel. Complete the Internship Dates Inquiry Form to ask whether the internship will be offered and when applications are expected to open and close.
2. Apply when applications open
Only eligible applicants should apply.
-
Submit the Coral Reef Research Internship or Dolphin Training & Research Internship application
-
Submit an up-to-date university transcript.
-
Arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent directly by your professors or job supervisors. One reference must be from a professor who has taught you in a science-related course or supervised your research.
Your application is complete only after all required materials have been received. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Submit everything by the application deadline provided for that session.
3. Receive your selection decision
Applicants typically receive a decision by phone or email within one week after their completed application is received. Wait-listed and unsuccessful applicants will also be notified.
4. Accept your offer
If selected, accept the offer by email within one week of receiving it. RIMS will then send an intern handbook and information packet to help you prepare.
5. Complete payment and prepare for travel
Full payment is due at least two weeks before the internship begins. If payment is not received by then, you may lose your place, which may be offered to another candidate.
Payment is made through our U.S. reservations office. The RIMS Reservation Coordinator can assist with payment options and can also help with flight arrangements and finding a convenient, affordable route to Roatan.
